Natural habitat

The Northern white-breasted tile occurs from Eastern Europe to Central Asia. The species has a particularly large habitat that overlaps with the European hedgehog in the West and with the Southern white-breasted hedgehog in the South. The taxonomy of the species has long been uncertain: the species was first described as a subspecies of the European Hedgehog and later as a subspecies of the Southern White-breasted Hedgehog, eventually being described as a separate species within the family.
